These chairs and their larger sister, the LC3, were designed to be "cushion baskets" of comfort and style. The LC2, petit confort collection consists of an armchair, two-seat and three-seat sofa and is included in the design collection of the Museum of Modern Art.

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe

Designed for his German Pavilion at the International Exhibition in Barcelona, this iconic chair with its simple X-base also comes in an ottoman/stool and couch/daybed. The design resulted from collaboration between the famous Bauhaus architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and his longtime partner and companion, architect and designer Lilly Reich, whose contributions have only recently been acknowledged.An icon of modernism, the chair's design was inspired by the campaign and folding chairs of ancient times.

This was one of the first chairs to take on the organic form during the mid-century movement. Eero Saarinen's 1948 Womb chair, made exclusively for Knoll, displays the Finnish-born designer's flair for challenging rules, breaking molds and setting new standards for comfortable modern design.

Egg Chair
Arne Jacobsen
Year: 1958
Jacobsen designed his Egg Chair as part of his design for the hotel lobby of the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. The Egg was designed in a typical Jacobsen style, using state-of-the-art material.It is believed to be inspired by Eero Saarinen's "Womb chair", from which it gains some traits. In many respects, though, the Egg is a much more complete design.

Swan Chair

Jacobsen also designed some comfortable Swan Chairs to complement his Egg Chairs in the same hotel lobby. Wouldn't you love to go back in time and waltz into the Copenhagen SAS Royal in the late '50s? Along with the swan Jacobsen also developed the Egg chair and further furniture which mostly did not get into mass production, like the Drop. The couch of the swan is still in production.
