Florence Knoll
Florence Knoll is the founder, along with her husband Hans, of Knoll furniture and manufacturing. Her designs were and are the gold standard for interior design in this country. She loved to design and build the little and plain things, what she called the "meat and potatoes" of a home, and make them more than what they appeared, and more than what most designers could imagine. Her chairs, tables and credenzas all fit this mold, and her inimitable stamp is forever imprinted on the trade of furniture making and design.
Born as Florence Schust, she studied under Mies van der Rohe and Eliel Saarinen (the father of Eero Saarinen). In 1943, Florence teamed with Hans Knoll and helped expand Knoll's presence in the interior design market. In 1946 she married Hans, and together they founded Knoll Associates.
